The Texas State University Counseling Center strives to provide services and programs within a framework of professional competence, affirmation, and responsiveness to a variety of lived experiences. The staff seeks professional colleagues interested in joining a collaborative and positive team that is committed to providing services to support all students in our culturally and economically varied campus community. Located within the Division of Student Success and accredited by IACS, the Center is also proud to host a well-respected APA-accredited doctoral internship program as well as practicum training and a post-doctoral residency. Successful candidates will have a generalist orientation and evidence knowledge and experiences responsive to the needs of the student body. Further, they will possess specific interests and experiences in providing varied and developmentally based services which support the mission of an engaged university counseling center.  Responsibilities include:

  • time-effective personal counseling (individual, group, and limited relationship services), initial assessments & triage, crisis intervention, clinical training & supervision, outreach programming, campus training, consultation, assessment, and administrative duties, as assigned.
  • In addition to the general duties noted above, interest and experience in one or more of the following areas is highly preferred: mood/anxiety management, assessment/ data management, center operations, crisis management, mindfulness, groups, clinical training/supervision, skills-based interventions, or substance use/abuse.
  • Competitive candidates will possess strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, campus departments, and student groups; a commitment to actively engage in practice with populations experiencing a variety of lived experiences; have experience within a multifaceted approach involving strongly linked clinical and training efforts; and possess ability/experience providing services within a high demand/fast paced setting.
  • Depending on Center needs, the selected candidate may have some responsibilities for providing embedded services for a campus department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion (or anticipated completion within 6-12 months of start date) of a Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical psychology from an APA accredited program
  • Completion of an APA accredited internship by the start date
  • Experience in providing crisis intervention services
  • Experience in developing and providing prevention related programming for a college-aged population
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • In addition, candidate must be eligible for (or currently possess) licensure as a psychologist in the State of Texas. License must be obtained within 24 months of start date and must be maintained to remain eligible for employment.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of a postdoctoral residency experience prior to the start date is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of clinical experience in a higher education counseling setting or with a similar adult population (may include doctoral internship, postdoctoral residency or practicum experiences).
  • Interest and experience in one or more of the following areas is highly preferred: mood/anxiety management, assessment/ data management, center operations, crisis management, mindfulness, groups, clinical training/supervision, skills-based interventions, or substance use/abuse.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, campus departments, and student groups
  • Experience actively engaging in practice with populations evidencing a variety of life experiences.
  • Experience working as a member of a clinically based professional team (including related academic training).
  • Experience within a multifaceted framework involving strongly linked clinical and training efforts.
  • Ability/experience providing services within a high demand/fast paced setting.
 
COMPENSATION

Competitive salary. Professional development support includes conference and other continuing education opportunities and reimbursement for licensure expenses. Also, supplemental malpractice insurance coverage is provided.
