POSITION DESCRIPTION

This full-time, 12-month position is a staff member in the University Counseling Service, housed in the Tippie College of Business. The position provides psychological services to students in the Tippie College of Business in support of students’ mental wellbeing and attainment of their academic goals, and guidance to staff and faculty about programming and or resources related to student mental health. These services include but are not limited to: individual assessment and counseling, group counseling, educational and outreach programming for UCS, and may provide supervision and training to graduate students in social work, mental health counseling, or psychology where appropriate or needed, to enhance services within the Tippie College of Business.  

Specific Job Duties & Tasks:

  • Carries a clinical case load providing counseling to individuals and groups within the Tippie College of Business consulting with other professionals as necessary.
  • Provides diagnoses, assessment, and treatment for emotional and functional disorders through primarily brief model counseling.
  • Supervises, evaluates, and assists trainees in various content areas.
  • Conducts workshops and outreach services designed to provide mental health education to students, staff, faculty, administrators, and parents/families on behalf of UCS.
  • Develops cooperative working relationships with selected UI units.
  • Designs and develops outreach programs to meet the needs of requesting UI units.

UCS has an inter-disciplinary staff of psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors, graduate interns, practicum students, and administrative professionals. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Licensure:

Doctoral degree in either Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-Accredited program, Master’s degree in Social Work with clinical focus from a CSWE-Accredited program, or Master’s degree in Counseling from a CACREP-Accredited Program.

Social Worker or Mental Health Counselor: Licensed as an LISW, LMSW, LMHC, or tLMHC in the State of Iowa by date of hire. Psychologist: Possession of a valid State of Iowa license as a psychologist within 18 months of hire. License must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of evidence and theory based mental health counseling in assessment, crisis, individual, and group with a university/college student population.
  • Extensive ability to assess, manage, and ensure high quality mental health counseling and crisis management.
  • Extensive proficiency in planning and delivering outreach programs and consultation services on a university campus.
  • Working knowledge of providing supervision to trainees.
  • Expert proficiency in the application of communication techniques and relationship building skills that develop the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Extensive proficiency in collaborating and interacting with individuals and groups while valuing the unique contribution of individuals.
  • Working proficiency with office support tools and electronic medical records software (e.g., word processing, email, presentation software and spreadsheets, electronic health records); preferably Microsoft Office and Titanium EHR.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students in a business college or program.
  • Interest and experience in being entrepreneurial in the continual creation of new service systems.
 
COMPENSATION

Minimum Salary $70,000, commensurate with experience
