Department Overview

The Student Health & Wellness Center (SHW) seeks a skilled behavioral health provider who can provide excellent clinical care to OHSU students and postdoctoral fellows across the spectrum of developmental and mental health issues. As with all SHW providers, this position will:

  • provide generalist mental health counseling services to OHSU students and postdocs
  • identify and educate about resources that promote self awareness, wellbeing, and personal growth
  • employ interventions that are flexible, individualized and evidence based.

The mission of SHW is to support Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) students, postdoctoral fellows and pathway scholars in personal health and well-being during their academic careers at OHSU. We work to provide exceptional and confidential primary and behavioral health care, integrative medicine, wellness programming, suicide prevention and food resource assistance, located on the primary OHSU campus on Marquam Hill in Portland, Oregon.

At SHW, we promote a work culture that is passionate about serving our patients, supports work/life balance for each employee, provides robust professional development opportunities, and encourages collaboration between roles. We believe in providing high-quality care for our patients in an environment that also supports the well-being of each team member and of the health of our team as a whole. Additionally, we follow OHSU's commitment to competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, retirement, life and disability insurance, paid-time-off, holiday pay, commuting benefits, employee wellness program, and more).

  • Serve as part of a team consisting of multidisciplinary mental health professionals (e.g., psychologists, psychiatrists, LPC’s, LCSW’s, LMFT’s), primary care team members (e.g., physicians, nurse practitioners, massage therapists, and medical assistants), wellness professionals, and vital support staff.
  • Foster strong relationships with student leaders, Center for Learner Diversity and Inclusion, academic leaders in all schools within OHSU, and OHSU student support services to facilitate outreach presentations, trainings, and overall education about psychology and mental health.
  • Design and deliver outreach programming on mental health topics of interest to students

Position Conditions:

  • This position will be an unclassified faculty position and the applicant will be required to gain a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at OHSU.
  • The hours of employment are negotiated annually with the Behavioral Health Director or his/her designee. Deviations from the assigned hours may be necessary to ensure adequate care for patients. Clinic hours are Monday-Friday and there is no on-call or weekend work in this role. Clinicians will be asked to work one evening per week (until 7 pm) to accommodate our students’ busy schedules.
  • This is an in-person role. There are currently some options for hybrid work.
